Rubber expansion joints

Increase safety through control of expansion behavior

Expansion joints are designed to provide stress relief in piping systems due to thermal movements and mechanical vibration. They require fibre reinforcement which guarantees both flexibility and safety.

Our expansion joint design adds the following advantages:

  • Better flexibility
  • Accurate prediction and control under pressure
  • Reduce the amount of materials
  • Automated production techniques

Conventional (hand built) expansion joints use many layers of rubber and sheets reinforced with fabric to obtain the pressure resistance. This results in a thick and un-economic joint with limited flexibility. Furthermore the use of fabric reinforced sheets cannot control the geometry of the expansion joint under pressure. This leads to unpredictable forces on your system and on the joint itself which can lead to failures.

TANIQ's flexible expansion joint

TANIQ expansion joint
TANIQ can make a Corpo™ redesign of your expansion joint with better flexibility and a high pressure resistance. Our technology allows precise influencing of the fibre orientation which enables accurate prediction and control over the expansion behaviour under pressure. The Corpo™ reinforcement can be applied in combination with a conventional floating flange design. However, increased safety can be achieved by applying the Capo™ flange design. This flange realizes optimal transfer of the forces working on the flexible joint to the environment. This flange principle does not use any clamping of the fibres but is based on a self tightening principle which uses the tensile forces on the individual fibres. TANIQ’s smart fibre placement will reduce the amount of materials needed, leading to a slender and flexible joint. Furthermore the automated production techniques will reduce manual labour to a minimum.

TANIQ expansion joint case study

TANIQ has made a comparative case study to determine the advantages of using Corpo™ optimal fibre reinforcement instead of the conventional fabric ply construction. From discussions with users and manufacturers of rubber expansion joints was determined what the specifications and redesign goals for the Corpo™ prototype should be.
