Imagine that the robot operator only needs to place a mandrel, start the program, and returnswhen the product is finished. To realize this, TANIQ is now developing new systems toautomate the cutting and attaching of rubber, fiber and tape materials, such that no manual steps are required during the entire winding process. At this moment, the solution for automated cutting and attaching of rubber strips has been successfully tested and has already been supplied with the latest equipment. Many manufacturers are interested in using FEA to analyze and improve their products, but don’t have the required expertise in-house. TANIQ has used their expertise of rubber, reinforcement layers and FEA modelling to developed a FEA Toolbox especially for reinforced rubber products. Using FEA instead of, or before developing and testing of prototypes saves significant R&D costs. Ultimately, this creates new possibilities to improve your product performance and quality. Typical load cases for reinforced rubber products are:

  • Burst pressure prediction 
  • Damage propagation
  • Analysis of (local) stress concentrations
  • Stiffness responses/ load displacement curves

TANIQ started 10 years ago with Technology to optimize cord reinforcement structures. Since then we have learned a great deal about the design and production of reinforced rubber products, from small size turbo hoses for trucks to heavy multi-layer dredge-/ mining-/ marine-/ discharge-hoses. Today, we use all our technology and experience to assist manufacturers with developing better products, and automating their design and production processes using smart software and flexible robotics. We have successfully applied our technology to Lifting-bags, Pipe-plugs, Expansion joints, various Hoses and are working on many other Applications together with our customers in different industries worldwide. The first ten years have been a great journey with many challenges and successes. Together with our customers we have been changing traditional methods.

TANIQ has continued their R&D efforts for development of the FEA Toolbox. The FEA model enables to simulate product performance (e.g. burst pressure, axial and lateral movements, expansion ratios, etc.)for different load cases. A unique feature of TANIQs technology is that the FEA model is consistent with the software design and the actual product, resulting in reliable simulations. Using the FEA model for product development before starting with physical prototyping can save significant time and money.

MAY 2014 - Trelleborg and Lansas present pipe-plugs at IFAT

Two of TANIQ’s customers, Trelleborg and Lansas (NL), presented their new pipe-plugs last week at the IFAT trade show in Germany. TANIQ has assisted both companies with the development of their pipe-plugs. With each manufacturer having their specific know-how and design requirements, this has resulted in two unique pipe-plugs with unique selling points. The Scorpo™ Robotics production equipment they use is similar, but they both have customized design software to make designs according to their specifications. Their different pipe-plug designs clearly demonstrate the ability to design unique products, while working with the same TANIQ technology.

TANIQ is developing FEA software to further optimize your product designs. It enables to calculate the stresses in products at different loading cases. You can for example: calculate burst pressure at ,maximum elongation and compression, predict shape deformations (e.g. expansion ratios) at different internal pressures, calculate end thrust forces, etc. The retrieved information can be used for optimizations of the product design or as input for the end-users and system engineers.TANIQ’s FEA module creates an output file, which can be imported into commercial available FEA packages such as Abaqus.

TANIQ has developed Scorpo Robotics to make large bore hoses up to 12 meters in length, and 2.5 meters in diameter. Parallel to this machine development TANIQ has developed and successfully tested the first scaled prototypes on a smaller set-up. To further optimize the reinforcement construction TANIQ is working on a mathematical model to optimize multi-layer reinforcement structures. The accurate robotic reinforcement winding enables to apply different winding angles per reinforcement layer, which enables to activate the layers more efficiently.

A few years ago TANIQ was approached by Trelleborg, after which a couple of successful product developments followed. During this period TANIQ has customized their technology for Trelleborg's design and production processes. TUFF GUARD, the perfect water hose designed by TANIQ for JGB Enterprises is now available on the US market. The TUFF GUARD has a unique design which makes the hose crush free and kink free! In 2009 Jay Bernhardt, owner of JGB Enterprises, leading supplier of hoses and hose assemblies for commercial and military applications throughout the world, approached TANIQ to design a perfect water hose. Together with JGB, TANIQ developed a unique hose design which is truly crush and kink free. The hose design was finalized in cooperation with a US hose manufacturer, who now is manufacturing the hose in the US using a patented production process.

Besides the automatic application of the reinforcement structure using Scorpo™ robotics, TANIQ has also developed automated rubber strip winding using Scorpo. Now you can use your Scorpo set-up to apply all rubber and fiber layers automatically. Including the winding of nylon pressure plies for your vulcanisation process. This way you can reduce the material costs of your product and produce it at high speeds with a constant quality.
