Research on automated production processes for reinforced rubber products
Manufacturing of reinforced rubber products can be automated by using industrial robots or other winding equipment. This allows to apply the rubber and fibre reinforcement layers on teh product with high accuracy and high speeds. A few of our recent research projects are listed below. System and tooling for automated rubber strip placement.Research and development of a system and tooling to automatically apply rubber strips on the product. Important parameters are rubber coverage on the product and handling the tension in the rubber during application to provide a constant quality.
System and tooling for automated placement of nylon ply wrapping.Extended research of the rubber strip placement to enable to apply nylon ply for compression of the reinforced rubber structure for vulcanization/curing.
Fibre tensioning systems for different production processes of reinforced rubber products.Research with fiber tensioning systems in various production processes to determine the characteristics of the different systems/methods.
Development and testing of mandrel systems.Research and development of mandrels for production of prototypes with trapped areas such as bellowed shapes. Examples of solutions are solvable mandrels, inflatable mandrels, puzzle cores, etc.
FUN: Reinforced champagne bottles for Teijin Aramid conference 2010.Application of an aramid reinforcement structure on a glass champagne bottle for promotion of Teijin aramid fibers on the Teijin Conference 2010 in Amsterdam.
FUN: Transparent Silicone reinforced rubber products for Rubber Trade Show.Development of a two layer silicone hose with a black inner liner and a transparent outer layer to visualize the fiber pattern on the bellows of the intermediate reinforcement structure. These visual models were made to present the TANIQ technology on the International Rubber Conference in Nuremberg 2009.
