Self-sealing flange
The Capo flange design makes efficient use of the tensile forces in the fibres to generate a self fixating and self sealing flange connection. The smart use of materials instead of heavily built clamping solutions makes it possible to make high performance lightweight flanges for hoses, expansion joints, pipe-plugs and other reinforced rubber products.
Conventional method is clamping
A chain is as strong as its weakest link. This saying also applies to reinforced rubber products. The fibre reinforced rubber can be very strong, but it is useless if the stresses are not transferred efficiently to its environment. This is the task of the flange connection. Conventional flange designs and coupling systems rely mainly on clamping of the materials. This means that the tensile forces in the fibre must be transferred into a clamping force perpendicular to the fibre. This has two disadvantages. It requires high perpendicular forces to generate the required clamping force, which results in unnecessarily thick coupling. Secondly, this connection is sensitive to fatigue which can lead to leakage or even failure of the product.
- Flange connection method is clamping
- Clamping means inefficient force transfer
- Clamping is sensitive to fatigue failure and leakage
Capo™ uses 100% transfer of forces

TANIQ’s Capo™ flange design is the solution for 100% efficient transfer of the forces from the reinforced rubber body into the metal connection part. The trick again is to use the orientation of the fibres to achieve this. Fibres follow optimized paths over a part of the flange. The internal pressure in the product generates a tensile force in the fibres which fixates the flange and provides a self-sealing function. Smart use of materials instead of heavily built clamping solutions enables the efficient transfer of forces.
- Capo flange uses 100% efficient transfer of forces
- Tensile strength of the fibres provides self fixating and sealing connection
- Optimal force transfer enables minimal flange thickness
